Electronic Leak Detection
Electronic Leak Detection is a key component of EuroLDS solutions proposition. This range of ‘high-voltage’ non-invasive leak detection tests can detect the smallest leaks in most flat roof waterproofing membranes in wet or dry conditions. All defects are accurately located allowing for targeted and effective repairs.

All tests will be complemented by thorough non-destructive visual inspection of all lap/seams especially upstand details and by testing of all field area lap/seams using a seam probe.
Once the tests are completed, EuroLDS will advise on the next steps and, if necessary, help to fix any defects.
+ Applications
Accurate location of points of electrical leakage to earth through the waterproofing, which are actual or potential sources of water ingress.
Can be used on upstands close to the point of termination to the structure.
- Best suited to liquid applied membranes, such as bridge deck waterproofing (but not water-based coatings).
- Can be used effectively on single-ply membranes.
+ Limitations
- Cannot test on EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) membranes, foil-faced bitumen membranes, aluminium painted surfaces or timber panel decks such as plywood, and it may be ineffective on some insulated systems.
- Not to be carried out on iced or frosted surfaces.
+ Health & Safety
- Before commencement, EuroLDS will submit a RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement) to the site management team for their review and approval.
- Although none of the described methods presents any health and safety risk in respect of the electrical output, care must be taken with this ‘high voltage’ test.
- Health and safety procedures will be observed whilst working at heights. Furthermore, as most membranes can be slippery when wet or icy, testing may not be performed in frost, snow, heavy rain or high winds, unless deemed safe to do so by EuroLDS personnel.
